2014 Sandown Stakes Betting Update

November 13th, 2014

A talented field of just nine runners have been confirmed for Saturday’s Group 3 Sandown Stakes (1500m), offering punters exceptional value from a betting standpoint and several key opportunities to place a winning wager.

Having produced an exceptional career-start abroad in his native France, Pornichet has opened as and maintained status as outright favourite for success in Sandown Stakes betting markets and is currently available at odds of $2.40 at Ladbrokes.com.au.

Claiming three wins and a further three minor places from just nine competitive appearances on course so far, Pornichet charged home to win the Prix De L’ile Dumet (1700m) first-up this year on February 13th, and while unlucky to be blocked for a run when fifth in the Prix Montenica (1300m) on March 13th, responded in the best way possible when taking out the Prix Prince Hundou by close to three lengths on April 17th.

Running third in the Group 1 Poule D’Essai Des Poulains (1600m) on May 11th, the Vespone entire was unable to match the late pace when ninth in the featured Group 1 Belmont Derby (2011m) in the United States on July 5th, but stamped his claims as a serious Australian contender when finishing a credible fourth in the Group 3 Yellowglen Stakes (1400m) first-up on November 1st.

Allocated the somewhat wide barrier 8, punters may find value in adding Pornichet as a selection in a Sandown Stakes trifecta or quinella bet.

While yet to receive much more than a sprinkling of wagers for success in Sandown Stakes betting markets, Red Bomber has maintained position on the second line and is available at a generous quote of $4.20 for success.

Finishing outside the places just once in ten competitive starts so far, Red Bomber has quickly built to the task this time in; finishing third in a minor over 1109m first-up before claiming three impressive race wins back-to-back through September and early October.

Overcoming a disappointing run for ninth in the Heading Out Hair & Beauty BM90 (1600m) with a comfortable win in the Peninsula Cup (1600m) last time out, jockey Craig Newitt has been confirmed to retain the ride on the Red Ransom gelding, who will carry just 54kgs in the 2014 Sandown Stakes.

Without doubt the class horse confirmed for the 2014 Sandown Stakes, Speediness is interestingly the only other runner currently available at a quote of less-than $10 and arguably offers punters the best value for money at even $5 odds for success.

One of the country’s leading performers yet to break through for a Group 1 victory, Speediness followed up an impressive 2013 Spring Carnival highlighted by a close third in the Group 1 Emirates Stakes (1600m) with a similarly competitive run through the 2014 Autumn Carnival; highlighted by an agonizingly-close second to Gordon Lord Byron in the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m).

Quickly finding his feet this time in, the Testa Rossa gelding was unlucky to finish just off the pace of Trust In A Gust in the Group 1 Toorak Handicap (1600m) most notably over five starts.
