Engimatic Darley entire Galah and Darren Weir-trained Lord Of Brazil will carry the top weight of 58kg and both are looking to record the first victories of what have been disappointing 2013 Spring Racing Carnival campaigns.

Galah started his preparation with a seventh place finish behind Platelet in the Group 2 Gilgai Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on October 5 and has improved in each of her three starts; finishing third behind Boban in the Group 3 Moonga Stakes (1400m) and second behind Smokin’ Joey in the Group 3 Tab.com.au Stakes (1400m) on Victoria Derby Day.

Lord Of Brazil has raced fairly this preparation but the veteran gelding has been unable to break through for his maiden victory at Group level.

The son of Lord Of Warriors finished fifth in the Listed Drummond Golf Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on September 14, third in the Jeep Don’t Hold Back Handicap (1500m) and seventh in the Group 1 Toorak Handicap (1600m) before a disappointing eighth in the Group 2 Crystal Mile (1600m) at Moonee Valley on Cox Plate Day.

The only last-start winner in the 2013 Sandown Stakes final field is Tony Vasil-trained Richie’s Vibe who finally broke through for his maiden victory in Melbourne in the Listed MSS Security Sprint (1200m) at Flemington on Melbourne Cup Day.

Also backing up from the MSS Security Sprint is Paul Messara-trained Mahisara who was returning to the races for the first time since he finished a disappointing 12th in the Group 2 QTC Cup (1300m) during the 2013 Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival.

Mahisara recorded his maiden victory at Group level in the 2012 edition of the Sandown Stakes and has the opportunity to become the first horse in the history of the race to win in back-to-back years.

Norman Waymouth-trained Mister Milton, Mornington-based Freereturn, Mick Price-trained Eximus and the inconsistent Go The Knuckle have failed to fire this campaign but connections are hoping they can find winning form in the Sandown Stakes this weekend.
