2010 Sandown Stakes Results – Larry’s Never Late Beats Demerit & Rockpecker

November 15th, 2010

The 2010 Sandown Stakes was run at Betfair Park Sandown Hillside on Saturday November 13 as part of the action of the final Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival meeting, and after a demanding run Larry’s Never Late claimed the hard-fought win.

Having their first-up run for the spring in the $125,000 Group 3 Sandown Stakes (1500m), known this year as the Zaidee’s Rainbow Foundation Stakes, the Jim Conlan-trained Larry’s Never Late jumped from a wide barrier nine draw but had the determination to overcome the gate and the rain-affected track and beat the favourite.

On the line it was Larry’s Never Late ($11) a short-head in front of the Peter Snowden-trained Demerit ($3.50), the favourite putting in a gallant late charge, while Rockpecker ($21) managed third a further three lengths away from the winner.

Connections are now considering taking five-year-old Larry’s Never Late to Dubai to contest some of the minor lead-up races to the World Cup in March, following in the footsteps of other Australian runners such as the Danny O’Brien-trained Valedictum (2009) and Tony Noonan’s Benedetti (2007) who both managed success in the smaller features in Dubai.
